Termites can cause massive amounts of damage to a home, resulting in structural damage which can be very costly. Many people have termites without even realizing it, because it can be a long time before the destruction takes its toll, and by then you’ll need building contractors AND exterminators.
How to Check for Termites
It might be a good idea to grab a flashlight and head down to the basement to do a little pest investigating. You may also want to check around the moldings and floor boards in the main part of the home, as well as around door frames and windows. The most obvious sign of termites is the mud tube they leave behind.
Check the home thoroughly for signs of the mud tubes. Adult termites have wings, and can often be seen flying around yards and near openings to the home, such as doors and windows. One home can have several colonies, so if you find one, don’t stop checking for others.
There are several different types of termites, so it is a good idea to check your yard for tunnels as well.
