While spring is certainly the most active season for carpenter ants, they can be active and causing damage any time of year if they can find a spot warm enough to avoid going dormant. Over the course six months, while you could be waiting for spring to determine whether you still have an infestation, they could be causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage.
The photo on the left shows how badly they damaged the stud. This was just one of many damaged boards and extensive remediatation was required to get the entire wall back in good condition.
Never hesitate to request an inspection or treatment if you see interior carpenter ants, even if it is during fall or winter when you normally wouldn’t expect to see them.
